Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Warm Blood” Is Super Cool
Carly Rae Jepsen has dropped E·MO·TION standout “Warm Blood,” and it’s another welcome departure from the bubblegum of “I Really Like You,” instead matching the sultry late-night pulse of “All That.” Jepsen’s vape-addled voice is particularly scratchy and vulnerable here, contrasting with the song’s silvery atmospherics and ultra-smooth electro bass line.
Vampire Weekend secret genius and Charli XCX collaborator Rostam Batmanglij produced and co-wrote the song, giving it some intricate background flourishes like warped computer static and keyboard riffs that reward multiple listens and keep it from being just another Drive-style retread. Hear it below.
E·MO·TION is out August 21 and we’ve also heard “Your Type” and the title track off the LP.
