Taylor Swift had the pop duo join her on stage to sing breakthrough hit "Am I Wrong."

Vanity Fair just revealed this year’s September issue cover star: Taylor Swift. She was shot by Mario Testino, the celebrated photographer who has snapped MadonnaKate Moss and Princess Diana of Wales. And the end result is stunning, because Swift looks like a classic Hollywood star in her black, white and glittery floor-length gowns. Stage makeup (long lashes, red lips) aside, the 1989 superstar is unrecognizable.

What is ironic about this is how inside the issue, Swift seems to exclusively talk about aspects of modern-day life that she’s (mostly) discussed before. She recalls how she wrote that open letter to Apple Music, demanding that artists be paid during the streaming service’s three-month free trial. She discusses her friendships with Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, because these are the women who consistently pop up on her Instagram profile.

The biggest surprise from the story itself is how she thanks Jay Z for helping smooth over ties with Kanye West after he interrupted her 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech. “I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along,” she says, adding, “And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing.”
