CL’s Debut American Album Contains Pop Anthems “Birthday” And “One,” According To Diplo

Diplo spilled all the tea in a new interview with Time. He revealed that summer smash “Lean On” was originally offered to (and rejected by) both Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, and then shared a few tidbits about CL’s much-hyped US debut album. (The duo previously worked on internet-conquering “Doctor Pepper”). The 2NE1 diva is perhaps best-known for her rapping, but the LP will also show off her aptitude at pop music.

One of CL’s pop anthems is a half-Korean/half-English ditty called “Birthday,” while Diplo describes “One” as a “real pop, teenage-graduation kind of fun, kid record.” Sounds pretty good to me. The producer then spoke about The Baddest Female’s unique sound, saying it will be labelled “K-pop because she’s doing it… but for the most part it’s eclectic. She’s very rap-leaning, she’s very fashion forward. She’s like the Nicki Minaj of that world.”
