Lana Del Rey’s “Terrence Loves You”: Hear Her Favorite ‘Honeymoon’ Track
Lana Del Rey has premiered Honeymoon track “Terrence Loves You,” her favorite song off the album because it’s so “jazzy.” And if you thought “Honeymoon” was too mopey and the “jazzy” descriptor held promise that this would be a livelier affair, we have bad news for you. “Terrence Loves You” is indulgently, defiantly slow, a smoky late-night lounge ballad that has Lana lamenting, “I still got jazz when I got those blues… I still get trashed, baby, when I hear your tunes.”
“Terrence Loves You” has some faint horn sighs, but otherwise it is not what you would call jazzy. It’s way out on the noir end of her aesthetic spectrum, far away from the hip-hop inflected “High By The Beach.” And somehow in the middle of this luxurious weep, she manages to interpolate David Bowie‘s “Space Oddity” for a few bars. For such a slow crawl, there’s a lot going on.
