One Direction is reportedly splitting up temporarily in the spring to allow the four remaining members to focus on solo projects. But think of this more as a conscious uncoupling and less of a breakup: The Sun reports that Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan decided that they’d forgo a tour for their forthcoming fifth album and would instead go on hiatus for about a year beginning in March.

“They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects. There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 percent behind the decision,” a source told the British paper, adding, “It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future.”

The four reportedly met in London over the weekend and came to the decision. The source said Zayn Malik‘s departure from the group in March didn’t affect this decision, but still you had to think it was only a matter of time before the remaining 1D members saw that sweet solo freedom and would want to try it out for themselves. 1D is still a music juggernaut, of course, but since Malik left, he’s been the source of plenty of online buzz over his solo material and speculation about which producers he’s linking up with, without releasing any music. So that kind of individual attention has gotta be tempting to the current band-members.

For Directioners who were looking forward to the album five era, there’s a kernel of good news: While they won’t be touring this next album, it’s expected to drop before the end of the year, so they’ll still be committed to a host of performances and appearances to promote it before the spring split commences.

One Direction’s team has yet to comment on the reports.
