Pop Perspective: Selena Gomez's "Good For You"
Selena Gomez's "Good For You" gets reviewed and rated by all four Idolator editors.

Selena Gomez is notoriously weary of social media, so fans jump for joy when she tweets something as banal as “hi!” It’s even rarer for her to wade into controversy, which makes last night’s (August 24) outburst on Twitter particularly noteworthy. “Disappointing seeing interviews I’ve done recently that sound like the exact same interview I did when I was 16,” the 23-year-old began. “I just want to release the album already.. I’m ready for people to know who I am NOW.”

“Print/type who I am NOW and stop being afraid it won’t give your website hits,” the Revival diva concluded. It looks like Selena’s frustration was triggered by her Sunday Times Style cover story. And to be fair, it’s a curious article. Not only does it begin by describing the triple threat as the “ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber,” it also drops this clanger: “Her moon-shaped face is endearing, her large eyes friendly… you can see why she was credited with being the stabilising influence in Bieber’s life.” I’d be mad too!

The fixation on the pop star’s past is curious because she’s in the middle of a remarkable career transformation. Selena shook off the shackles of her Disney days effortlessly with the edgy and understated “Good For You.” The track is not only incredibly good, it’s also a smash hit — reaching a new peak of number six on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
