Alex Maxwell’s “Drive” Video Takes Us On A Menacing, Lynchian Roadtrip: Idolator Premiere

As the first British artist signed to Disney Music Group via their Hollywood Records UK imprint, Alex Maxwell needs to be on your pop radar. The 21-year-old impressed with debut single “Drive” — an ominous piece of electronica produced by The Flight (other credits include Say Lou Lou’s “Fool Of Me” and Lana Del Rey’s unreleased gem “Kinda Outta Luck”). It sounds like a lost contribution to a David Lynch soundtrack, which makes the Lost Highway-channeling visual a smart idea.

There’s not really a narrative as such. The clip begins with our hero tearing along a shadowy road, but it soon becomes clear that he’s searching for something (a neon-lit stag symbol, as it turns). Alex then appears, looking every inch the film-noir siren as she performs the track under blue lights. The next thing we know she’s hanging around a pay telephone. Are they lovers on the lam or is something more sinister afoot? Watch up top and decide for yourself.
