Ed Sheeran and Rudimental groove it out on "Lay It All On Me" — listen!

Early on in Ed Sheeran‘s career, Coldplay set a high standard in terms of crossover success. “[B]efore, I felt like America was this untouched gem that only Coldplay did,” Ed told The Telegraph. “But then when Adele smashed the door down and then One Direction and Mumford and Sons did it, I was like: not only is it possible now, other people are doing it. So, I needed to go over.”

Fast forward to last night (September 25). This would be the second time Ed performed at Boston’s Gillette Stadium, the first time being in 2013 with Taylor Swift. This time Ed was the headliner bringing out the special guest. He and Chris Martin sang Coldplay‘s 2000 breakout hit “Yellow”—the song that reminds Jay Z of wifey Beyoncé, remember—before doing a duet version of Ed’s equally romantic “Thinking Out Loud.” Obviously, Ed’s made it.

Both Coldplay and Ed Sheeran perform the Chris Martin-curated Global Citizen Festival today (September 26), which streams worldwide and also features Beyoncé and Pearl Jam. For now, watch their joint performance from last night below.
