Miley Cyrus’ “Hands Of Love”: Listen To Her ‘Freeheld’ Soundtrack Song

Every few years or so, as with “Wrecking Ball” (the song, not the video), Miley Cyrus hits the reset button and reminds us that, beneath all the tongue and twerking shenanigans, scandalous Instagram pics and nude photo shoots, there is an enormously talented vocalist with the skill to channel pure emotion into a four-minute piece of pop.

Today brings such an occasion with the arrival of “Hands Of Love,” Cyrus’ powerful ballad off the Freeheld soundtrack. The movie itself is heavy stuff: Adapted from Cynthia Wade‘s 2007 documentary, it tells the story of New Jersey police officer Laurel Hester (played by Julianne Moore) and her battle with the county’s board of chosen freeholders to leave her pension to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree (Ellen Page), once Hester is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

With “Hands Of Love,” Miley taps into the film’s weighty subject matter and serves up a properly wrenching track that, if anything, should restore faith for the Cyrus purists who her found themselves nonplussed over the singer’s recent Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz project.
