New David Bowie Song “Blackstar” Plays Over ‘The Last Panthers’ Opening Credits: Watch

It’s been a moment since we heard anything new from David Bowie, save for the single “Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime” included on last year’s multi-disc Nothing Has Changed hits compilation. But lo and behold, it turns out the Thin White Duke was commissioned to pen an original track — titled “Blackstar” — for the opening credits of upcoming British crime series The Last Panthers.

Directed by Johan Renck, who lensed such music videos as Madonna‘s “Hung Up,” Robyn‘s “Handle Me” and Lana Del Rey‘s “Blue Velvet,” the series stars Samantha Morton and John Hurt, and premieres in the UK on November 12.

The clip of Bowie’s gothic theme song in the opening credits runs less than a minute, and sounds like it could easily double as a soundtrack cut for any number of James Bond films.

There’s no mention of the Sky Atlantic/Canal + series airing in the States, but with a little luck maybe it will wash up onto Netflix at some point.
