Azealia Banks Calls Out Nicki Minaj For Playing The Victim
Azealia Banks may have a few (okay, let’s be real…a lot) of f*ck-ups when it comes to spurting out the first unedited thoughts that come to her mind — whether it’s on a plane or on Twitter.
But throughout her various social media mishaps, the “Chasing Time” artist does manage to speak the truth on certain issues. Back in September, Azealia slammed Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift for making “basic ass music.”
But today (October 7), she is specifically targeting the Pinkprint rapper — and for valid reasons. In her interview with New York Times, Nicki Minaj continued to call out Miley Cyrus. Yet according to Azealia, she needs to stop playing the victim.
“I wish Nic would stop trying to turn this Miley thing into a race issue cuz she was mute about cultural approp. until she became “victim,” Azealia tweeted. “Plus how u gonna complain about a video with skinny women when ur body is enhanced .. You too were once a skinny woman,” she continued.
Whether she wants to admit it or not, Nicki Minaj usually glosses over cultural appropriation issues and comes off as a bit narcissistic — Zendaya, anyone? It’s only when it affects her directly that her “woe is me” act comes into play. As for the fake booty and boobs speculation? That has been discussed since the beginning of her mainstream career.
But check Azealia’s string of tweets below to make your own judgements!

I am a skinny black woman. Not every black woman can afford enhancements so it’s not fair to other girls to make it about that.

This isn’t about race. if it were she would’ve said something when the industry was trying to wipe her out with vanilla wife.

I am a female rapper, I like to stay up on what’s happening in my field. Because the field has been boarded up and abandoned for so long.

As much as we want to complain about cultural appropriation from without we still aren’t being as heralded as men within hip-hop because ..

We have no pack mentality.

The fact that Lil’ Kim was treated the way she was by hip-hop (I am also guilty of being on this bandwagon) is ridiculous to me.

It took me some time and maturity to come to these conclusions but it’s truth. There isn’t a female rap category anywhere but BET really..
— azealiabanks (@AZEALIABANKS) October 7, 2015
Like why viciously rip off Kim’s head and be so cordial and thoughtful about ur dealings with these white chix ?

I may just have to get over the very utopian idea of a female rap sorority cause it ain’t happening while capitalism is at play. LOL 😂

These are some real basic times. Time hasn’t been lit since like 07.
