Lady Gaga’s Ad For Japanese Brand Shiseido Is Shockingly Normal: Watch
There’s a rich tradition of celebrities shilling Japanese products in over-the-top commercials. In the pre-YouTube days, appearing in these ads was an easy way to make some shameless big money with your US audience none the wiser. The landscape has changed now, where the older, odder ones have gone viral (Nicolas Cage is king) and appearing in commercials is basically expected of celebs. So Lady Gaga seems like a natural fit for one of these throwback Japanese commercials — but her new spot for skincare and beauty brand Shiseido is shockingly normal.
A remixed version of Gaga’s “Cheek To Cheek” plays while she is shown in dance tights, glamming it up in a black cocktail dress and unleashing her inner Harajuku freak, before spouting the tagline “Be yourself.” Madonna‘s dragon-slaying commercial this is not.
