Kita Alexander's "My Own Way": Listen
Aussie newcomer Kita Alexander gets it right with summery debut "My Own Way."

Kita Alexander impressed all the right people with her debut single. A summery pop/rock moment that channeled Haim (and the ’70s music that inspired them), “My Own Way” made the 19-year-old an instant blog darling. She lives up to that promise on “Like You Want To,” the title track of her debut EP (due November 27). This time around, the Australian newcomer looks to the ’80s for inspiration — serving Stevie Nicks circa The Wild Heart vibes.

Produced by Ben Romans (the man behind Carly Rae Jepsen’s “E•MO•TION” and “Let’s Get Lost”), the dreamy anthem is more than a nod to the past. There’s a relaxed, dreamy quality to “Like You Want To” that also permeated every synth and beat of “My Own Way.” That aesthetic also comes through in home movie-tastic video, which finds the teenager being young, free and gorgeous in California. Watch the visual, which she co-directed with Zach Miller, up top.
