Simplicity is the key for Gwen Stefani‘s new single “Used To Love You,” from the way the Voice coach’s pain-wracked voice takes center stage on the track itself, above the minimal synth-lite instrumentation, to the minimalist nature of the song’s music video. And speaking of the video, Gwen opted to keep with the same white tank top and two-tone-hair-swept-to-one-side look for her first live TV performance of “Used To Love You,” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

While her black-clad band stood in the shadows quietly playing along and singing backup vocals, Gwen was front and center with her emotional breakup tune during her Ellen appearance, looking quite anguished but sounding on-point.

Thankfully, this second stab at a solo career comeback is just about enough to make us forget “Spark The Fire” ever happened. Watch Gwen on Ellen above.
