While US talent shows have failed to generate any pop stars of note recently, international franchises have a much better track record — at least in the short term. Last year’s runner-up on The X Factor (UK) Fleur East has a huge hit at home with “Sax,” while 19-year-old Cyrus Villanueva (he now goes by his first name) knocked Adele off the top spot of Australian iTunes with soulful winner’s single “Stone.”

Produced by TMS (Jess Glynne’s “Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself” and Little Mix’s “Wings”) and Bobby Andonov (a recent Hollywood Records signee), “Stone” finds the Wollongong native suffering from a bad case of a love sickness. “I should have guessed from those cherry lips that you’re gonna leave your mark,” Cyrus croons. “Never had a kiss that hit so hard.” Watch the newcomer perform his excellent debut single below.
