Kylie Minogue’s “Every Day’s Like Christmas” Remixed By Stock Aitken Waterman: Listen

Leave it to Kylie Minogue to get Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman back together in the studio for the first time in 25 years. In the late 1980s, the production team (known then as Stock Aitken Waterman) launched Minogue’s career with hits like “I Should Be So Lucky,” “Hand On Your Heart” and “Better The Devil You Know.” Now they’ve reunited to remix “Every Day’s Like Christmas,” one of the best tracks off the Aussie singer’s Kylie Christmas album.

The gorgeous track was written by Chris Martin and, at the tail-end of its original form, features backing vocals by him. (So just let that sink in for a moment: There’s now a Coldplay/Stock Aitken Waterman connection.) The production trio’s overhaul includes bells, their trademark Hi-NRG bassline and plucky, smile-inducing synths.

“I did worry about tampering with a Chris Martin song in any way,” Peter Waterman told The Sun. “I wasn’t sure Chris Martin and Stock Aitken Waterman would be easy bedfellows but he said it was fine.”

Kylie’s first four albums, released between 1988 and 1991, were produced by SAW.

Speaking to The Sun about working with his producing partners again, Waterman said, “The three of us have not done a single for 25 years. We have never fallen out but there was never a purpose where we thought it was worth working together. I told the others this is what Kylie wants and they said, ‘Let’s do it — return at the top’.”

As for Kylie, last month she told Idolator, “After Kiss Me Once, where I worked with a thousand, million different people — I’m probably underestimating, maybe it was more — I just felt I wanted to work with people I know and love and trust.”
