Tori Kelly absolutely nailed it (as usual) on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today (December 2). The 22-year-old performed new single “Hollow,” which is rumored to feature on an upcoming release of debut LP Unbreakable Smile. The rising star played around with the arrangement, incorporating an a cappella introduction and an unexpected gospel element via her choir-like backing vocalists. It worked and proved, yet again, that she has one of the best set of pipes in the business.

It will be interesting to see how “Hollow” fares on the charts. It’s considerably catchier than previous singles “Nobody Love” and “Should’ve Been Us,” which peaked at numbers 60 and 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively, and has a season-appropriate melancholy twist. Tori should also get a boost for the Grammy committee. It would be a complete shock (and injustice) if she misses out on a Best New Artist nomination.
