18 Mariah Carey Songs That Deserved To Reach #1
We curated this list in celebration of her '#1 To Infinity' compilation!

New divas on the block are cute and all, but there’s a reason so few of them manage to stick around and slay, year after year! Timeless divas like Madonna, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and more showed the younger generation that longevity is possible in the midst of the frenzied social media-heavy industry.

So we at Idolator curated a list (in no particular order) of the 10 fiercest music biz queens who came back and came big in 2015. Snatch your favorite wig and get into it below!

1. Mariah Carey

Dahhling, 2015 was looking bleak until Mother Lamb (aka Butterfly, Mimi, Agent Honey, TRL trainwreck, Glitter, the Elusive Chanteuse) rescued the industry. Not only did Mariah Carey give us #1 To Infinity, her jewelry box of 18 Billboard Hot 100 toppers, but she also began her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palacepublished a children’s book (All I Want for Christmas Is You) and directed/starred in Hallmark Channel’s A Christmas Melody. Oh, the starlet also bagged herself a new billionaire boyfriend. Sorry, lessers!

2. Madonna

Sure, the chart placement of Madge’s latest album Rebel Heart may have done this:

But never fear: La Ciccone only stays on her back when it’s good for her career! Not only were there some really great songs on the set — #JusticeForGhosttown — but the entertainer made another bazillion dollars with the world-conquering Rebel Heart Tour. Bitch, she’s Madonna!

3. Reba McEntire

Longtime fans might wince hearing Reba growling about the post-breakup powers of sexy men “blowing up” your phone on Love Somebody‘s lead single “Going Out Like That,” but let’s face it — 40 years into her career, Ol’ Red can do no wrong. Not only did her new album top the country charts, but she also spearheaded Outnumber Hunger’s national charitable campaign and teamed up with Brooks & Dunn for a Las Vegas residency. Did we mention, too, that she’s newly single and on the prowl (twangy 12-octave meow)?

4. RuPaul

Although she’s released two albums this year — Realness and Slay Belles — the Supermodel of the World has yet to release a video for either project, so it was very thoughtful of Youtube personalities The Maine Gays (and their dogs) to lip-sync for their motherfucking lives to sure-to-be-holiday-classic “Christmas Cookies.” Perhaps Mother Ru was too busy prepping Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars, and her upcoming holiday special — RuPaul’s Drag Race: Green Screen Christmas? All will soon be ru-vealed…

5. Shania Twain

(Okay, this video’s from 1995, but it’s the one that sent so many Nashville traditionalists clutching their pearls in terror at the rise of this jiggling juggernaut.) Still, good news for devoted Shaniacs who’ve been desperately awaiting their bare-midriff goddess’ return: not only did La Twain make major bank with her farewell 2015 Rock This Country Tour, but she announced that she’s going to spend this winter finishing her new album. Man! We Don’t Feel Like Waiting!!
