Are These Hudson Mohawke Beats For Frank Ocean’s New Album?

Unless Frank Ocean‘s got a Beyoncé up his sleeve, it’s looking like we won’t hear his long-awaited sophomore album until 2016. But thanks to a new Reddit thread, we may have a slightly better idea of what kind of sounds he’s going for. Yesterday (December 9), a folder of 11 unreleased Hudson Mohawke beats titled frank o0000oocean appeared on Reddit, and there’s some reason to believe the contents were authentic.

For one thing, the official twitter account for TNGHT (HudMo and Lunice‘s joint project) retweeted a link to the thread (which was later un-retweeted). And some of the beats indeed appear to be early versions of HudMo tracks. Kanye To The determined that “Rice Chips” is Lantern track “Warriors” and “Where The” eventually became Pusha T‘s “Hold On.”

The original Reddit thread was deleted, but Pitchfork points out the collection of instrumentals can be downloaded here.

Ocean’s been keeping this shit under wraps more than we’re used to seeing in this age. Other than Hudson Mohawke, the only other rumored collaborators on the new project are pretty much French dance producer SebastiAn and pianist Christophe Chassol.
