Madonna isn’t having a great holiday so far. On December 23 she appeared in court in Manhattan to order that her 15-year-old son Rocco Ritchie stay in New York with her for Christmas.

Rocco was in London with his father, Sherlock director Guy Ritchie, hoping to stay there for the holiday instead. But the judge ruled in Madonna’s favor, while also instructing that her son discuss his living situation with both parents.

“If he wants to stay with his father, he wants to return to his mother,”  Manhattan judge Deborah Kaplan said, according to New York Daily News. But Good Morning America also reports that, should Rocco want to return to London, he will be reportedly allowed to have his own court-appointed attorney to make that request in the future.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie ended their marriage in 2008 after being married for seven years. Rocco has been visiting Guy in London, while also accompanying his mom on her Rebel Heart World Tour. See the GMA report below.
