Our take on the loss of pop and rock's one-of-a-kind, unrivaled chameleon.

A year ago this month, Universal Pictures’ trashy mom-boinks-teen-neighbor thriller The Boy Next Door was released in theaters, and it went on to gross $52 million at the box office against a $4 million budget. Alas, despite the movie being a decent-sized winter hit last year, it holds a Rotten Tomato score of just 10%, and now it’s landed star Jennifer Lopez a Worst Actress nomination for this year’s Razzie Awards.

This isn’t JLo’s first time at the rodeo with the Razzies, of course; 2003 box office disaster Gigli infamously swept the anti-Oscars the following year, and earned Lopez a Worst Actress statue in the process — just one of six Razzies awarded to the film.

The American Idol judge will face some, um, “competition” in the Worst Actress category from fellow thespians Katherine Heigl (for Home Sweet Hell), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Of Grey), Mila Kunis (Jupiter Ascending) and Gwyneth Paltrow (Mortdecai).

As far as Worst Actor goes, it’s a sausage fight between Johnny Depp (Mortdecai), Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Of Grey), Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2), Adam Sandler (The Cobbler and Pixels) and Channing Tatum (Jupiter Ascending).

The Razzie “winners” will be announced on Saturday, February 27, i.e. the evening before the Academy Awards. For the full list of this year’s nominees, head over here.
