I would have never guessed that in 2016 I would be raving about The 1975 — but here I am today (January 15) making sure their new music is being acknowledged. And the act’s latest tune “The Sound” is — dare we say it? — absolutely fire. [Insert flame emojis here]

The UK band’s previous indie rock efforts did not connect with me, but “The Sound” is a purely pop gem. The upbeat tune swirls together all the necessary factors: a catchy singalong hook, bouncy disco-infused-but-kind-of-New-Wave electronic synths, and shimmering piano melodies. Check, check and check!

Look out for The 1975’s sophomore I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it LP on February 26 via Interscope. It also includes tracks like “UGH!” and the David Bowie-tinged “Love Me.” Get into “The Sound” below, and check out their tour dates while you’re at it.
