Our take on the loss of pop and rock's one-of-a-kind, unrivaled chameleon.

Music buyers in David Bowie‘s homeland have shown their respect by buying hundreds of thousands of the late artist’s records over the past week, including new release Blackstar, which has topped the UK album chart. This marks Bowie’s 10th trip to #1 with an album in the UK. Blackstar sold a total of 150,000 copies there since its release last Friday (January 8).

Altogether, a combination of sales and streams of Bowie’s albums and songs totaled 623,000 in the United Kingdom this week. The Official Charts Company notes that Blackstar was already showing early signs of heading for #1 even before news of Bowie’s death broke late on Monday. (Look for similar action to happen in the States, once Billboard’s chart info is announced early next week.)

Additionally, 18 other albums by the late musician have shot back into the Top 100. The highest re-entry is 2014 compilation Nothing Has Changed, at #5. Other hits collections that cracked the UK album chart include The Best Of 1969/1974 (#11), Best Of Bowie (#18), The Best Of 1980/1987 (#59) and Five Years: 1969 – 1973 (#97).

Bowie’s studio albums currently on the UK album chart include Blackstar (#1), Hunky Dory (#14), The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust (#17), Aladdin Sane (#23), The Next Day (#25), Low (#31), Diamond Dogs (#37), Let’s Dance (#42), “Heroes” (#45), Station To Station (#55), Young Americans (#60), Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) (#61) The Man Who Sold The World (#89) and Space Oddity (#95).

Over on the UK singles chart, while Justin Bieber is lodged at the top again with “Love Yourself,” a total of 13 Bowie songs hop into the Top 100 — five of which landed in the Top 40. See the full listing of Bowie’s returning hits below.
