Ellie Goulding’s “Army” Gets A Bright And Bubbly Mike Mago Remix
It used to be fairly common to promote different singles in different territories, but the practice is less prevalent in the digital age. That hasn’t stopped Ellie Goulding pushing “Army” as the second single from Delirium in the UK, while sending “Something In The Way You Move” to pop radio in the US. I thought we got the better deal until hearing Mike Mago’s remix. It transforms the clunky cut into light and feathery synth-pop anthem.
Produced by Max Martin and Ali Payami, “Army” is an earnest mid-tempo pop song dedicated to Ellie’s friends and fans. (That really comes across in the cute video). It’s well-intentioned but a little dull. Something that can’t be said of the Dutchman’s hook-filled overhaul, which premiered on BBC Radio 1 yesterday (January 14). The British diva dropped her third LP in November. It has already produced one hit, the sassy “On My Mind.”
