Grace Talks "You Don't Own Me" & Debut EP
We spoke to Aussie soul singer Grace about "You Don't Own Me" and her debut EP.

Grace has been steadily hitting up American TV shows and performing her stellar cover of Lesley Gore‘s 1963 smash “You Don’t Own Me” since last summer. The legendary Quincy Jones produced by the original version as well as this one, and this morning Australian singer Grace Sewell (sister of fellow rising pop star Conrad Sewell) staged her latest bid at conquering the States on Live With Kelly And Michael.

As with her performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week, not to missed is Grace hitting that jaw-dropping, Mariah Carey-esque whistle register note in the middle of the song.

“My manager has been friends with Quincy [Jones] for a long time now and one day he was at his house, he was playing Quincy some of my music,” Grace told Idolator in 2015. “He said to Q, ‘We’d love to remake one of your originals, something from your selection of hits’. Quincy, before my manager could finish his sentence, was like, ‘You guys should do Lesley Gore’s ‘You Don’t Own Me’’. He was so certain about this idea, he thought it was just a message that needed to be portrayed again for this generation.”

So far, the young Aussie’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me” has hit the top of the Australian singles chart and landed in the Top 5 in the UK. Will the US be next?
