Zayn Malik is ready to step into the spotlight on his own. He has announced the January 29 release of “Pillowtalk,” his first new music as a solo RCA artistBillboard reports that “Pillowtalk” is also the first single off his debut solo album, out this spring.

The title is to be taken quite literally, according to The Sunday Times, as Zayn sings about sex being “so pure, so dirty and raw.”

“I think I’m pretty black and white about what it’s about,” he says, adding, “Everybody has sex, and it’s something people want to hear about. It’s part of everybody’s life, a very big part of life. And you don’t want to sweep it under the carpet. It has to be talked about.”

Zayn hasn’t talked about what “Pillowtalk” sounds like, though he has been working extensively with producer James “Malay” Ho to blend his childhood influences — including R&B, reggae and rock — on his album overall. Malay believes that Zayn chose him specifically because of his work on Frank Ocean‘s channel ORANGE, as he tells The FADER.
