Zendaya Drops Chris Brown-Assisted Banger “Something New”

UPDATE: Zendaya dropped the track this afternoon (February 3). Pay particular attention to the TLC sample!

The rumors were true! The first taste of Zendaya’s sophomore LP is a Chris Brown-assisted banger called “Something New.” The 19-year-old unveiled the colorful cover today (February 2) and shared a brief snippet of the track on Instagram. “I wanna try something all night,” she coos over a sultry beat. It’s definitely a change of pace from the urban-pop of her debut, which was the reason she swapped labels (from Disney to Republic) in the first place.

We know that the “Replay” diva can ride a slick beat (listen to any of the Timbaland-produced previews) but the inclusion of Breezy is concerning. He might add some credibility as far as rhythmic and urban radio is concerned, but his presence was the kiss of death for Tinashe’s “Player” and Rita Ora’s “Body On Me.” Hopefully, “Something New” doesn’t suffer the same fate. Check out the slinky jam below.
