As she told nighttime host Jimmy Kimmel last night, Gwen Stefani spent about six days, working from 6 a.m. until 3 a.m., on the set of her groundbreaking live music video for “Make Me Like You.” And that roller skate crash you saw happen? Don’t fret — it was Gwen’s stunt double who fell, in a bid to psyche out viewers then surprise them upon seeing the singer in the very next shot.

Another revelation: “I will admit, that song is about that guy,” Gwen said with a laugh when Jimmy asked if “Make Me Like You” is about her boyfriend and fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton.

“What’s so great is that sometimes tragedy can, you know — if you really absorb it, you can turn it into something beautiful,” she explained. “This whole album is really about trying to take something that was awful and just, I don’t know — healing from it and turning it into something beautiful.”

Stefani and her husband of 13 years, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, split last summer. The singer’s third studio album This Is What The Truth Feels Like is due out March 18.

Above, watch Stefani talk more about the making of her “Make Me Like You” video on Jimmy Kimmel Live, then catch her discuss finding out about her No Doubt bandmates’ new side project with AFI singer Davey Havok below.
