Kesha Fans To Hold Rally Outside New York City Courthouse This Week
The long, messy, confusing legal tangle Kesha is embroiled in with producer Dr. Luke is finally going to court this week to determine whether the singer will be allowed to release music outside of the producer’s company. Meanwhile, Kesha’s fans are putting on the glitter and war paint and preparing to stage a rally outside Manhattan’s New York State Supreme Court this Friday (February 19) — quite a trend lately — while the fate of their hero’s career is determined.
“The fans are protesting Sony Music Entertainment’s refusal to voluntarily release the pop star from a recording contract that would force her to create eight more albums with Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald), a producer she alleges sexually assaulted her,” states a press release for the rally.
The protest is part of the #FreeKesha movement, and has been organized in conjunction with a Care2 petition signed by over 114,200 people demanding Sony let the singer out of her contract with Gottwald.
“We’re protesting at the courthouse to drive home that Sony needs to listen to more than 107,000 petitioners who want to save Kesha’s career and human rights,” protest organizer Michael Eisele told Care2, per the press release. “Pop music fans are sending a clear message that they won’t stand for Sony’s completely unethical and inhumane treatment of a woman who was brave enough to speak up about sexual abuse.”
Meanwhile, if nobody is working on a documentary on this whole strange and sordid moment in pop history, it’s truly an Oscar opportunity gone down the drain.
