Leona Lewis' 'I Am': Album Review
Leona's new album seems to be about more than just showcasing her voice.

Leona Lewis’ latest LP I Am didn’t exactly set the charts on fire when it arrived last year. The adult contemporary-leaning opus stalled at an underwhelming number 39 on the Billboard 200 and could only manage slightly better in the UK — debuting at number 12. Considering that her debut LP Spirit sold 8 million+ copies around the world, it’s something of a come down. However, she’s keeping her head up with a pair of killer covers.

The Brit delivered a spectacular interpretation of Kanye West’s “Only One” late last year and now puts her own spin on Elton John’s oft-covered 1970 classic “Your Song.” (Ellie Goulding recorded an awful version in 2010). Leona’s take is a lot more subtle than I expected. She could have easily overcooked this, but she shows restraint and the song is all the better for it. Now if someone could just give her some decent original material to record. Listen below.
