We do some math to predict whether Sam Smith or Lady Gaga will win this Academy Award.

Lady Gaga surprised the Los Angeles crowd seeing Elton John perform on February 27, when she joined him to sing his 1974 single “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” After giving her good friend a peck on the cheek, Gaga took over the song’s second verse and helped him power through the rest, getting people to wave their hands in the process.

“Give it up for this wonderful man who’s inspired people for generations,” Lady Gaga said before she left.

This surprise concert, in front of the old Tower Records off Sunset Strip, was Elton’s way of thanking West Hollywood. Since 1991, the neighborhood has hosted the legendary rocker’s Oscars viewing party to raise money for his Elton John AIDS Foundation. He performed older hits as well as off his new album Wonderful Crazy Life, which he released on February 5.
