Pet Shop Boys Cover ‘Attitude’, Say They Recorded 25 Songs During ‘Super’ Sessions

Pet Shop Boys members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe and their 30-plus-year musical partnership are the focus of Attitude‘s April 2016 cover story. There are some pretty fantastic photos of the pair done by Joseph Sinclair, and we’re not going to give too much of the story away, since Attitude has opted not to put the full piece online (you can buy a digital copy here or pick it up on newsstands this week in the UK and likely a week later stateside).

There is one curious detail we’ll pass along, though, which is that Tennant says he and Lowe recorded over two dozen tracks altogether for upcoming album Super (out April 1), of which only 12 made the cut.

“For this we had 25 songs,” Tennant tells Attitude. “Our producer Stuart [Price] came to our studio in London and we played through all these 25 songs and decided what approach we wanted to follow on from the last album Electric, which was very electronic and quite up and tuneful and melodic but not too poppy. We have some poppy songs that are actually pretty good but we decided to use them later on and not on this album.”

So will the additional 13 tracks become B-sides? Part of the next album? Only the Pet Shop Boys know.

For now, you can grab lead Super single “The Pop Kids” on iTunes and listen on Spotify…and check out the full image of Attitude‘s April cover below.
