UPDATE: removed the tidbit about Spears’ new album being slated for the spring, but it still notes that she’s finishing up the album. Original post below.

Britney Spears is the star of Magazine‘s centennial issue, appearing on three covers for the double issue shot by Mario Testino. We’ll get into why Spears was chosen f0r the 100th iteration of the fashion mag in a sec, but first, the preview of the John Norris-penned story mentions that Spears is putting “the finishing touches” on B9, which is “due this spring.”

Previously, we’ve heard she was 80% done with the album and that it may have some Weeknd-influenced sounds, but this spring timeline means the B9 era is much further along than suspected.

As for selecting Brit for the special issue, part of it has to do with timing. V‘s inaugural issue came out just nine months after Spears’ debut album, so they’ve come up during the same pop culture moment.

“When looking for cover worthy subjects for our 100th issue, we had to ask ourselves, Who do pop stars and musicians — who have become an integral part of what V represents — look up to and admire?” explains V founder and editor-in-chief Stephen Gan. “There was only one answer: Britney! She has entered icon status, and who in our world did not grow up listening to her music?”

The issue hits stands March 8. See the other two covers below.
