Blake Shelton isn’t having a hard time transitioning into the dating world, if his new single “Came Here To Forget” is any indicator. Written by Craig Weisman and Deric Ruttan, the single’s somber undertones and guitar-laced arrangement aren’t all that atypical from what’s on country radio. However, the fanfare surrounding Shelton’s personal life provides the ballad with an unexpected sense of zest and intrigue.

The lyrics seem to allude to his failed marriage to country sweetheart Miranda Lambert as well as his current romance with fellow Voice coach Gwen Stefani“Girl you gettin’ over him, and I’m gettin’ over her,” the singer serenades to an “unidentified female” on the post-divorce hookup anthem, “Keep leanin’ it on in closer, keep saltin’ the rim / Getting even with her, and with him, before the night is over.”
