MKTO make a welcome return to the pop scene on Friday (March 11) with a two-part track called “Hands Off My Heart/Places You Go.” The duo, who landed a global hit in 2013 with retro-pop anthem “Classic,” have been fairly quiet since since dropping last year’s (underrated) Bad Girls EP. If the subject matter of their single is any indication, however, it looks like the guys have had their hands full with relationship dramas.

“‘Hands Off My Heart’ is a song about being in a relationship with a girl and everything’s going swell,” Malcolm Kelley explains in a video to fans. “You know, you might be in it for like four years or something like that but then it comes to the breaking point where you might want to separate. So that frustration about still loving, still having love for that girl, not really being with her but every time she hits you up you might fall back in love with her. She won’t take her hands off your heart.”

The other half of the song explores the flip side of that situation. Namely where you’re the one playing with someone’s emotions. “‘Places You Go’… is really just about describing the unfortunate circumstances that comes with dealing with someone like us,” Tony Oller reveals. “We all have our own issues, but sometimes it’s easier to not let people get close because you know you’ll hurt them in the end. So ‘Places You Go’ talks about ways we would deal with break-ups or handle situations. You get a little insight into what would happen.” Watch below.
