Damnnn Bianca! Back at it again with the SXSW recaps!

That’s right, everyone! After the sheer madness that ensued after my first year of SXSW with Idolator in 2015, I’m back again to share my adventures in Austin. But this time around, it’s more of a relaxed and calmer vibe.

After starting the day off with breakfast tacos (which are the real keys to success at SXSW), SPIN‘s Brennan Carley and I explored the quieter side of the city. We stumbled upon the Hope Outdoor Gallery, which is an incredible art installation on a hill that you can climb up and walk around on.

The day got even more thrilling, as I stopped to grab a bite for lunch with the Def Jam team before heading to my first artist interview of the week—G.O.O.D Music signee, Kacy Hill. We chatted about her Bloo EP and the things she has in store for her debut album. Be sure to stay tuned for my full Idolator interview, as well as a portrait gallery, with the singer coming very soon.

The ladies definitely ruled the first day of SXSW, with Bibi Bourelly rocking her set at Fader Fort and Kacey Musgraves wooing the Spotify House crowd thanks to her undeniable southern charm (her serene covers of Bob Marley‘s “Three Little Birds” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” were surefire highlights).

Wrapping up the Wednesday evening was none other than Metro Boomin, who (alongside Future‘s DJ Esco) shut down Fader Fort by ripping through hits like The Life of Pablo‘s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” DS2‘s “Where Ya At” and What a Time to be Alive‘s “Jumpman.” For me to say I was worn out after this DJ set would be an understatement—but I had to make time for Kelela!

The ethereal R&B singer became my nightcap—I soaked in her moody performance set during House of Vans at The Mohawk (one of the more exciting venues and my favorite from last year) as she drew the audience in with “Rewind” and “Bank Head.”
