Justin Bieber wasn’t trying to say “Sorry” this past weekend.

On March 19, during his three-stop takeover of L.A.’s Staples Center, Justin stopped by West Hollywood nightclub 1 Oak and sat perched on the DJ booth. He has actually pulled this stunt before, to sing hits of his like “What Do You Mean.” But this time he gave a minute-long speech about the importance of believing in yourself,  regardless of what the haters have to say.

The Purpose singer couldn’t have began on a better note. “See, I’m not trying to give, like a 30-minute speech about Kanye West. I love Kanye. I only have a little bit to give, though,” he said, before a fan of both artists shouted, “I love you like Kanye loves Kanye!” (Based on his recent behavior, we don’t think Kanye would take offense.)

Justin had also fallen into the DJ booth that night, and he admitted to being out of it during his speech, like we couldn’t tell. “Maybe I’m drunk, or maybe I’m just speaking real shit. But I feel like a lot of the reason why so many of you hate on me is just because I’m myself,” he said. Watch the speech below.
