Gwen Stefani Lands First Solo #1 Album With ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’

Surviving heartache is a good fit for Gwen Stefani, as her breakup album This Is What The Truth Feels Like has become her first solo album to top the Billboard 200. Stefani’s third LP (sans No Doubt) goes straight in at #1 on the strength of 84,000 album units (76,000 of which are pure sales). Previously, Gwen’s debut solo outing Love. Angel. Music. Baby. opened with 309,000 in 2004 and peaked at #5, while 2006 follow-up The Sweet Escape got as high as #3, and sold 243,000 out of the gate.

Gwen’s first two solo album each contained two Top 10 singles, the biggest of which was Love. Angel. Music. Baby.‘s “Hollaback Girl.” The brash pop anthem topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in 2005, and became the first single to sell one million digital downloads. The Akon-featuring title track off The Sweet Escape climbed all the way to #2 in 2007.

To date, Gwen’s two official singles off This Is What The Truth Feels Like, “Used To Love You” and “Make Me Like You,” have peaked at #52 and #54 on the Hot 100, respectively.

On a final note, Jordan Smith, the most recent winner of The Voice, becomes the highest-charting artist on the Billboard 200 to emerge from the show as his debut LP Something Beautiful goes in at #2. Well, that only took nine seasons.
