When Nick Jonas was a teen, he and the rest of Jonas Brothers wore purity rings. This inspired South Park to depict Mickey Mouse beating them up to wear them. But in a Reddit AMA, he says that he actually appreciated wearing a purity ring for as long as he did. (He announced that he stopped wearing it in 2014.)

“I got a lot of perspective and real care about sex from those days and specifically because people were watching us, because it was such a strange thing to a lot of people to wear those purity rings especially as young men in a pop boy band,” he says.

“I think it was a good thing. It gave me a really good perspective to where as now my main thing is about being okay with who I am as a man and the choices I’ve made, and I think everyone should have a good and solid conversation with either their parents or loved ones about sex and about what they want to do with their life, because it shouldn’t be taboo.”

Journalists have quizzed Nick on his sex life since he was 15. He could be sick of talking about it now. But if he was, he didn’t show it, as he expanded on how his religious upbringing informed his worldview.

As for that South Park episode, Nick didn’t find it funny at first, though he laughs at it now. “I’ve actually watched the episode a few times,” he says. Head to Reddit to read the AMA in its entirety.
