A Different Kind Of Scandipop: Marit Larsen’s “Running Out Of Road” Video

When it comes to Scandinavian pop music, most people think of icy synths and brittle, ethereal vocals. Which is understandable because the Norwegians and Swedes are electro-pop wizards (think Robyn, Röyksopp and Tove Lo). However, there’s also a thriving folk-pop scene littered with equally magical creatures like Marit Larsen. The singer/songwriter, who carved out an international following with 2009 toe-tapper “If A Song Could Get Me You,” returned last week with independently-released EP Joni Was Right.

She unveiled the video for lead single “Running Out Of Road” today (April 6) and it’s a wintery affair that finds the “Traveling Alone” diva performing the song next to a river with her comfy sweater-clad band. The simple approach aligns perfectly with the song’s rustic charm and provides as good an introduction as any to one of Norway’s best exports. Prepare to be enchanted by Marit’s latest anthem up top.
