Meghan Trainor Defends Jennifer Lopez For Releasing Dr. Luke-Produced “Ain’t Your Mama”

Remember that online backlash last week over Jennifer Lopez releasing the Dr. Luke-produced “Ain’t Your Mama” in the wake of Luke’s legal battle with Kesha? Meghan Trainor, one of the song’s co-writers (along with Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald), says it’s “not fair,” and that JLo “didn’t know” Luke was behind the song when Trainor passed it on to her.

“[It was] not fair on her, not at all,” Trainor said during a chat with journalists that Digital Spy was present for. “I texted her the song and she had no idea — she thought I did it alone by myself at my house, which a lot of people think because I do do that. I sent it to her and said, ‘Do you like the song?’ and she said, ‘I love the song, my kid loves the song — he’s made me play it five times already so I know it’s a hit — when can I cut it?’, so I said immediately, ‘Whenever you want!'”

So there you have it, I guess: JLo had no idea Dr. Luke produced her single…at first, at least. Interestingly, “Ain’t Your Mama” might not be the only release we see from Lopez that Meghan Trainor wrote.

“I gave her three songs so far, and [‘Ain’t Your Mama’] was one of them,” the “No” singer said. “For the American Idol [finale] they were like, this is the best one that mixes with ‘Let’s Get Loud’, so they combined it. But I felt terrible when Jennifer got all the hate for [‘Ain’t Your Mama’], and it’s just all ridiculous. It’s such a big song for her.”

Meghan’s own album Thank You is due out on May 13 via Epic, the same label Lopez is now signed to.
