Grimes Addresses Kesha Case With Her Own Story Of Sexual Harassment From Male Producers

UPDATE: Grimes has responded to the media feeding frenzy sparked by her comments.

Grimes recently sat down with Rolling Stone, and in addition to briefly throwing the internet into a tizzy over new music, she also addressed sexism in the music industry, which she has spoken about before. Specifically, she was asked about Kesha and Dr. Luke‘s ongoing legal battle, and offered up her own example of how the industry is such a “hostile environment” for women.

“I don’t know enough about the specifics of that situation, because it seems very complicated,” she said about Kesha’s case, adding, “But I will say that I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, ‘We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room.’ If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I don’t think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”

This shit is crushing, man. Why would a woman want to pursue pop music after men have spent decades turning the industry into a glorified dick-measuring contest? The good thing is this type of nonsense is getting put on blast more often now, but think of the lechery and abuse that’s been piling up for years that we’ll never hear about. Great job, guys. We’re the worst.

Anyway, read the whole interview here, there’s plenty of other cool shit Grimes talks about to keep you from tossing your laptop out the window and setting fire to your record collection.
