Geez, you blink and suddenly six years flies by and pint-sized 2010 America’s Got Talent diva Jackie Evancho is now 16 years old. The vocal powerhouse from Pittsburgh officially makes her transition from classical music to pop with new piano ballad “Apocalypse,” which has echoes of Adele‘s 2011 smash “Someone Like You” in it.

Keeping in mind Jackie’s young age, “Apocalypse” does contain a borderline scandalous moment, when the teenager sings, “I don’t know if my heart can still afford this, sleeping in a bed that was our fortress.”

The song’s writer, Peter Zizzo, tells Billboard (who premiered the song), “I took another look at the lyrics when we realized we were gonna record it with Jackie, because I felt that some of it might be a little bit rough for her in terms of relationship experience, but she really loved the emotional point of view and she was comfortable with it.”

Give “Apocalypse” a listen at Billboard ahead of its official release on April 22, and see what you think of Jackie Evancho’s first foray into pop.
