Last night (April 26), R&B crooner D’Angelo shared a chilling rendition of Prince’s “Sometimes It Snows In April” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Cloaked in a purple light, the Black Messiah was joined by PrincessMaya Rudolph’s Prince cover group with Gretchen Lieberum – to perform the Parade ballad. The singer was noticeably teary-eyed by the song’s end, changing one of the lines in the track to “I often dream of Heaven and I know that Prince is there.”

D’Angelo has often cited Prince as one of his biggest influences, having first discovered the Purple One when he was just five years old.

“I remember we had [“I Wanna Be Your Lover”], and my brothers were just enamored by this guy,” said D’Angelo in an Okayplayer interview. “They told me, ‘He plays everything, he writes everything, he’s singing everything,’ so I was hooked from then on. I learned how to play every song on that album, note for note, at five years old.”
