Jack Garratt’s “Surprise Yourself” Gets An AlunaGeorge Remix: Idolator Premiere
2016 belongs to Jack Garratt. The 24-year-old unleashed debut LP Phase to near-universal critical acclaim, won the BRITS Critics Choice award and topped the BBC Music Sound of 2016 poll (previous winners include Adele and Sam Smith). The genre-defying artist is currently promoting “Surprise Yourself,” the sixth cut from his album, and now turns to fellow Brits/tastemakers AlunaGeorge for a beautifully restrained and surprisingly faithful remix.
“I wrote ‘Surprise Yourself’ for a friend of mine who took the wrong train home once,” Jack says of the song. “I wanted them to have something uplifting to come home to.” He well and truly achieved that goal with the soaring anthem. The London duo don’t veer far from his warm and fuzzy vision, they simply mute it a little with their drowsy synths. We excited to premiere their immaculate overhaul below.
