Popping Up: Ruth B
Get to know Vine sensation/rising pop star Ruth B a little better in our latest Popping Up.

Ruth B’s rising hit “Lost Boy” comes to life with a magical video. Directed by Emil Nava, the classy visual pays homage to the song’s main inspiration (J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan) by incorporating little splashes of whimsy. There are floating objects, falling snow (indoors) and flying girls. Well, hovering might be more accurate. It’s all held together by the 20-year-old’s earnest performance, which finds her mostly sitting at the piano.

“Lost Boy” is a rare example of a viral hit making the transition to chart-conquering smash. Originally released as a six-second Vine, the ballad was so well received that the Canadian singer decided to record a full-length version. She then released it independently and landed in the top 100 on iTunes. Columbia Records soon stepped in and the song is now sitting pretty at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. Expect it to climb a lot higher in the next couple of weeks.
