Kesha won’t be performing at the Billboard Music Awards, as Dr. Luke‘s camp blocked her from what was shaping up to be some sort of protest performance. Kesha claimed she was merely planning a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “It Ain’t Me Babe,” and while it won’t happen at the BBMAs this weekend, she at least got to play it with a friend last night (May 18).

The embattled singer joined Ben Folds on stage at his L.A. concert at the Orpheum for a lovely orchestral version, completely reimagining the twangy song.

Afterward, she gushed about Folds on Instagram for letting her share the stage. “Dear Mr. ben folds, thank u for tonight. thanks for letting me share your stage, your band, your audience, your humor, your songs,” Kesha posted. “Thanks for believing in me. thanks for being a positive and encouraging human in my life. thanks for ur records that got me through high school. thanks for being a genius composer. thanks for being nice when we work together. thanks for letting me play a Bob Dylan cover with you. thanKs for being a good friend in this scary business.”
