Kesha Explains Her Canceled Performance
Kesha says she had no intention of mentioning Dr. Luke in her Billboard tribute.

Kesha’s ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke took a nasty turn this week when he put a stop to her performance at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 22). There were rumors the 29-year-old was planning to make a statement about the producer, but she vehemently denied this in a lengthy Instagram post. The last-minute cancelation sparked outrage, with Lady Gaga and Diane Warren (K$ recently covered their Oscar-nominated ballad “Til It Happens To You”) condemning the move on Twitter.

“Isn’t it strange that it’s legal to own a woman this way? Listen Ursula, we want her voice back,” Mother Monster mused with a pointed reference to a universally-despised Disney villain. Diane then added her voice to the choir of outrage, tweeting: “I can’t stay silent on this. It is beyond fucked up to not let Kesha perform at Billboard awards Would that happen if she was a male artist?” She then got to the heart of the matter. “What is the point here? To crush her spirit? That won’t happen, Kesha is a strong woman. I feel bad for her she doesn’t deserve this.” See their tweets below.
