Cyndi Lauper Tributes Prince With Emotional “When You Were Mine” In New York: Watch
Cyndi Lauper is on the road in support of her latest album Detour, which recently had a Top 5 debut on the country album chart. During her first, sold out night of two at New York’s Beacon Theatre on Wednesday (May 25), Lauper’s set list was comprised of a perfect mix of her own hits and the country covers that make up her new LP.
One emotional on-stage moment came when the singer brought up the fact that the music world has lost several major artists this year. She mentioned that “this last one” — meaning Prince — hit her particularly hard.
Cyndi tweeted the following on April 21, the day of Prince’s death:
💔about Prince, one of the greatest artists has left us today. I’ll miss my friend, his advice&great humor.Thank you for your magical music.

After speaking at the Beacon for a moment about the Purple One, Lauper launched into a rousing rendition of “When You Were Mine,” a Prince-written number that appeared on Lauper’s 1983 debut, She’s So Unusual.
