Shawn Mendes was the first and arguably most successful artist to make the transition from social media (Vine, in his case) to pop stardom. His debut LP, Handwritten, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the top 10 smash “Stitches,” which was eventually certified quadruple platinum. Needless to say expectations are high for his sophomore set, but he seems more than up for the challenge with new single “Treat You Better” (due June 3).

A moody, introspective anthem in the vein of “Life Of The Party” and “Stitches,” “Treat You Better” is immediately relatable. “I won’t lie to you, I know he’s not just right for you,” the 17-year-old declares over a stripped-back guitar arrangement. It’s only a brief snippet, but it’s enough for the song to get stuck in your head. Get acquainted with Shawn’s next big hit below.
